Arrival into Entebbe, Uganda

After almost 22 hours of travel time. I finally made it into Uganda. Even at 10:30PM it was still about 25 degrees outside. I was surprised to see it so dry outside as May is one of Uganda's wet seasons. It was pouring in Rwanda but dry as could be in Entebbe. No complaints. Initially, I was glad I purchased my Visa while still in Canada, because I skipped a HUGE line at customs to continue to baggage claim. However, this is where the problems came. After waiting for about 1/2 hour looking for my baggage I heard someone ask a ground staff member where the rest of the baggage was. He said there was no more coming off the plane.... So there were about 40 of us with over 70 bags that never made it to Entebbe. Unfortunately I realized this too late when I was told to go to the lost baggage claim area to file a claim.

There was a swarm of people there, cranky and angry at the staff, but they were trying their hardest to get through everyone as quickly as possible. I still ended waiting almost an hour and a half before I could leave the airport. I felt terrible because the hotel arranged a taxi pick for me, and he waited almost 3 hours before I came out. I was told that my luggage was probably still in Amsterdam, and never made it onto the next flight down into Africa. They said to everyone that we can expect them to be delivered on the next flight to Entebbe, which was at the same time (10:15PM) the following day. Then they would be delivered the day after that (Sunday) at some point.

Anyway, I finally left the airport for the almost hour journey into Kampala where my hotel was. Not too too much to see that late at night on the drive into the capital, but there was increasingly more night life as we got closer into Kampala. I finally arrived at my hotel, and was very glad at that. Unfortunately, the front desk staff could not remember the correct password to give me for the Wi-Fi. So I was without internet that night. Not that it was a bad thing, I just wanted a way to let everyone know I arrived safe into the country. It was probably after 3:30AM before I could fall asleep, and I was told breakfast is only served until about 10, so I was in for a short sleep that night.
