Western Uganda Day 4

Game drive around QENP in the morning:
Kob
Once I finished my breakfast at the hostel, Julius came to pick me up for our early morning game drive. We left about 7:30AM to get a better chance of seeing animals. Luckily, because we had a 4WD we were able to do the off road tracking. I was able to see lots of Kob, Waterbuck, and Buffalo. Suddenly, after driving around for some time, we came across a solitary bull elephant! That was a very unexpected surprise indeed. I got some decent shots of him too. We then continued on our drive around the park

And there he was, strolling by

Waterbuck

Some buffalo

QENP is a very large park (about 1978 square kilometres). It is also one of Uganda's most visited parks; well known for its abundance in wildlife.

View from the lodge, the peninsula
We finished the game drive with ample time before the boat cruise in the afternoon. So I took some rest and relaxation time at the Mweya Safari Lodge, one of the higher end accommodations close to where I was staying. They had a beautiful view of the park, including the peninsula to which Mweya is connected. It was VERY hot that day, and they had a pool. Apparently the pool was only for residents, however I did not know that and so got to enjoy cooling off anyway while soaking up some sun.

Afternoon boat cruise in the Kazinga Channel, QENP:
This 2 hour cruise was by far worth the $25 for what I was able to see. We started the tour at one of the common watering holes where lots of animals visited. There were lots of buffalo, some elephants, many hippos and some crocodiles. We hda a vey informative UWA on board with us. He relayed a lot of interesting information about the animals we were seeing, and the history of the area. We eventually passed a fishing village up the channel. The people there were very friendly, especially the children. All saying hello and waving to us. We then began our way back to the dock to finish the tour.

Although only a small area visited, I still got a nice taste of what QENP had to offer.
He was tired...
