Western Uganda Day 3

Queen Elizabeth National Park - Ishasha Sector:
QENP
After breakfast in Bwindi, Julius and I headed out to begin our drive to QENP. Today we were making a stop in the Ishasha sector of the park to see if we could find any lions. After a few hours of driving, we made it to the park entrance. We then proceeded to get a UWA guide to take us around the park. In this sector a guide was needed because the off roading tracks are very easy to get lost on. As we drove around the park, I was able to see some Waterbuck, Topi, Warthog, Olive baboon and Ugandan Kob. After driving around for a while we came across an abandoned hut that used to be used for visitors to the park. To our surprise there were 6 lions inside! So they weren't in the trees like we expected for Ishasha, but we still got to see some. Apparently, recently, it has been very rare to see any lions. So I felt lucky that I at least got to see some.

Hungry warthogs
After this mini game drive, Julius and I headed for Mweya, another area of QENP, where we were to stay. Along the way I saw a huge herd of elephants far off in the distance, so no pictures for that unfortunately. It was still cool to see such a large single file herd like that in the wild. Finally arrived at Mweya and got settled at the Mweya Hostel for the evening. Just grazing around the rooms were two warthogs! Remember we were in a wildlife park, so wildlife definitely was going to be around. At night I could also hear a lion making noises in the distance.

  1. I love the idea of the lions ( and other wildlife just hanging about in the cool of the huts. They are so beautiful!
